As human beings we have a tendency to ignore or fight against using our natural gifts. Natural gifts are as simple as intuition or artistic ability to psychic/medium. Many success stories start with an individual who is ignoring the call of his/her gifts. There are many possible reasons for this resistance — fear that the calling will be too difficult to a disbelief in the very work one is being asked to do is egotistical. You may feel inadequate, too distracted by other people’s ideas about what is acceptable, or simply uninformed. Whatever the reason, the resistance to actualizing yourself has very concrete consequences, and you might be called out of hiding by an illness or a twist of fate that unequivocally dismantles your resistance. The universe knocks, and if you do not answer it knocks louder and louder. The universe knocks in the form of recurrent dreams, repeated mishaps or seemingly ‘bad luck.’
For example, if you are a gifted psychic or medium, and you are not using that gift, you may get headaches. If you are gifted to be a healer and have a career as a lawyer, you might have trouble getting or keeping a job. This does not mean that you can not be a lawyer, however, you need to integrate your gifts into your work. On the other hand, you may sense an underlying notion, that you are not on the right path, doing the right thing. Pay attention to this sense, and ask for guidance from the universe, being open to all its communications, from subtle internal yearnings to powerful dreams.
As you begin to risk opening to your natural gifts, your life situation may shift in a powerful way. However, you may find that small steps in the right direction, such as taking a class or setting aside time to paint or write, is enough for now until you are ready for the next step.
The first step on the journey to your calling in life is to listen to your internal voice and respond to the knocking at the door. As you do, the symptoms and stresses that have plagued you will fade into the background, replaced by opportunities, both big and small, to open the door to what you are truly here to do.
